A practitioner for over 25 years, Pratima has constantly been using her knowledge to further Shelter Associates’ cause. She conceptualised the intricacies of what participative design would look like on the ground for both housing and sanitation and built the sensitivity required for bringing multiple stakeholders together on a single project. Strongly believing in sharing knowledge, Pratima regularly speaks and presents her work across the world, participates in policy discussions and plays advisory roles in government programs such as the Rajiv Awas Yojana.
Pratima was a recipient of an Aga Khan scholarship for her master’s in architecture, building design for developing countries, at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, London. She is the only Indian to receive the ‘Google Earth Hero Award’. An Ashoka fellow, she is recognized by BBC as a leading ‘Slum architect of India’.
