Madhav Pai

Madhav Pai is a respected thinker-practitioner in urbanization, climate change, transportation, and environment. He joined WRI India in 2008 as part of its founding team and has played a key role in building high-performance teams to design and scale solutions for India’s complex urban challenges.
A civil engineer from the University of Mumbai, Madhav earned a Master’s in Transport Planning from UC Berkeley. He applies systems thinking to address the complexities of contemporary cities. Under his leadership at WRI India Ross Center and previously at EMBARQ India, his team has advanced pioneering initiatives including the Mumbai Climate Action Plan, Raahgiri street campaigns, and the National Electric Bus Program, while shaping policy on urban transport, clean air, and sustainable planning.
